Update Winter 2023
Earlier on in the year we finished our hedge planting campaign for another season. Over the last few years we have planted over three kilometres of new hedges made up of hawthorn, blackthorn, buckthorn, hazel and dog rose. In years to come these should act as wildlife corridors between existing habitats but also provide food and shelter for farmland birds such as yellowhammers. Thank you to Murray and Kevin for their hard graft.
We have also been working with our beef processor, ABP, and Sainsbury's to measure our carbon footprint and identify further improvements. The good news is that our cattle are performing well and our beef has a carbon footprint well below the average but reaching Nett Zero is still a challenge. This year we will be focussing on improving our grazing management and reducing our use of artificial fertiliser as well as growing some beans to avoid the need for feeding imported soya.
